  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 5 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • ⅓ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish, ensuring a smooth surface for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined; this aerates the mixture for better rise.
  3. Beat the egg whites in a clean bowl until soft peaks form, then gradually add half of the granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  4. In another bowl, beat the egg yolks with the remaining sugar until pale and fluffy; then stir in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the yolk mixture until just combined; then carefully fold in the beaten egg whites in thirds to maintain lightness.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean; let cool on a wire rack for about thirty minutes.
  7. In a large bowl, whisk together evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract until smooth; set aside.
  8. Poke holes all over the cooled cake using a fork or skewer and slowly drizzle the soaking mixture evenly over it; cover tightly and refrigerate overnight.
  9. Before serving, whip heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and additional vanilla extract until soft peaks form; spread generously over the soaked cake.
  10. Top with sliced strawberries for a beautiful finish and enjoy!
