- 2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional: toasted nuts, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries
Instructions
- Bake the chocolate cake according to package directions in an 8-inch round or square pan until domed slightly on top; let it cool completely.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and salt; gradually add heavy cream and butter until melted and smooth, about 5–7 minutes.
- In a chilled mixing bowl, combine heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract; beat until soft peaks form while keeping it fluffy.
- Cut the cooled cake into small cubes; layer half of the cubes in a large glass trifle bowl followed by half of the fudge and half of the whipped cream.
- Repeat the layering process until ingredients are used up, finishing with whipped cream on top; garnish with chocolate chips or your chosen toppings before chilling for at least two hours.
