  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 24 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with foil. The scent of the warming oven will start to fill the air.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, confectioners' sugar, and salt. Cut in the softened butter until it resembles coarse crumbs; it should feel crumbly in your hands.
  3. Press the crust mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan. You should feel a firm yet slightly soft texture as you press it down.
  4. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until lightly browned around the edges; you’ll notice a golden hue appearing as it bakes.
  5. In another bowl, mix together brown sugar, dark corn syrup, melted butter, eggs, chopped pecans, and chocolate chips until well combined; the mixture should be thick yet pourable.
  6. Once the crust has cooled slightly, pour the filling evenly over it using a spatula to spread it gently without disturbing the crust too much.
  7. Return the pan to the oven for an additional 25 to 30 minutes until set; gently shake the pan to check for minimal movement in the center.
  8. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting into squares for clean edges; they will smell heavenly as they cool.
